Map of Proposed Mesker-Helfrich Park District

Mesker/Helfrich Complex

The various Mekser-Helfrich properties form a vast reserve of connected open space.  The diverse resources of Mesker Park, Helfrich Golf Course, Helfrich Park and Pool, Golfmore Park and the city properties that extend to Pigeon Creek should be viewed as one place.  Interconnecting trails and parkway edges for the streets that engage the complex, and an overpass at St. Joseph Avenue would functionally bind this district together. Property expansion towards Diamond Avenue and Locust Creek would provide greater visibility and a regional "front door" to he Zoo and Mesker Amphitheater.  There is an opportunity to develop this concept further as the Mesker Park Zoo Master Plan is developed.  The Helfrick Golf Course and Mesker Park Zoo could become the management partners.
