|
The City of Greenfield intends to improve the existing downtown streetscape by the use of federal funds awarded through the Transportation Enhancement Activities (TEA) program administered by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT). The INDOT has assigned the designation number 0600383 to the project. The project is integral to a larger revitalization effort occurring in the City of Greenfield that includes the renovation of the Village Theater, the enhancement of Riley Days, and the overall marketability and attractiveness of the City.
The project area generally occurs within the existing right-of-way along US 40/Main Street from Riley Avenue east to Spring Street, along South Pennsylvania Street from Main Street south to approximately Depot Street, along SR 9/State Street from North Street south to approximately Depot Street, and the intersection at Main Street and Broadway Street. See Exhibit 1: Project Extents and Exhibit 2: Project Photos for additional detail.
The project scope includes traffic signal improvements, sidewalk replacement, landscape enhancements, and street furnishing improvements. The traffic signals will be improved to make them part of a coordinated streetscape including street lighting and furnishings. Sidewalk replacement will occur within the project area at specific locations that are in urgent need of repair. Additionally, existing brick pavement will be replaced with a decorative concrete pavement to lessen maintenance within the project area. Improvements to the “urban forest” will be to replace and/or add new street trees with a focus on promoting tree sustainability and that balance the development of a pleasant street environment with views to landmark buildings and businesses. Finally, seat walls and additional furnishings will be integrated into the streetscape at key locations, including benches, trash receptacles, identity elements, and possible gateway features.
