Riverfront, museum are jewels

To the editor:

On Sunday, my 10-year-old daughter and I were looking for something fun to do. We decided to head to the Evansville Museum. What a treat was in store for us.

The exhibit "Codebreakers" was quite interesting, and the exhibit "Adams, Forsyth & Steele: Indiana Paintings From the Lilly Endowment Collection" was second to none.

If this were all we had done, it would have been a marvelous afternoon; however, there was more.

It was also Transportation Day at the museum, and we enjoyed looking at all the crazy bicycles and old cars. What I was most excited about, however, was the Greenway. I had not seen it since it was done. Steph and I had a blast walking up and down the Greenway, looking at the river. The riverfront is such a beautiful place now. There were people everywhere. Some were jogging, some walking, and some even flying kites.

The atmosphere was festive, and we were grateful to be a part of it.

Thanks to all who had a part in making the riverfront Downtown so beautiful.

Report from Evansville

"At 7:00 p.m. last night I was on the Riverfront......it was a lovely night. There was no room to park at the Pagoda and the riverfront was packed with people. There was not an empty bench to be seen. People were sitting at the picnic tables in front of the Pagoda having drinks. There were old people, handicapped people, children, bicyclers, and dog walkers. There were almost as many people out there as were at the Evening on the River event last week. It was amazing".

Progress Report from the Evansville Parks and Recreation Department regarding the Evansville Pigeon Creek Greenway/Riverfront extensions currently nearing completion:

"The construction on the greenway has been phenomenal. We have received many compliments and accolades from the Convention & Visitors Bureau, Casino Aztar, and the public at large. You would not believe the response from the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Sod is being installed along the levee and the limestone pillars are being installed around the Museum. The concrete pavers have been installed in most areas...... the first layer of asphalt will connect Four Freedoms Memorial to the Museum next week. The section from the Sunset Park to the Museum was done two weeks ago".
